Our Diamonds
Are these real diamonds?
Memorial diamonds are chemically, structurally, and visually the same as any other diamond (lab or mined). The only difference being their source: carbon extracted from hair, fur, or ashes.
How are these different from typical lab grown diamonds?
Most lab-grown diamonds are mass-produced together by the millions using a generic carbon source.
Ours aren’t.
Each Ossu diamond is grown individually from the carbon of your beloved, using a single growth chamber reserved for that diamond alone. This ensures the carbon source is never mixed with anyone else's at any point in the process.
It's an incredibly unique, bespoke process for the one who means the most to you.
How are your diamonds certified?
Every diamond we grow is independently inspected, graded, and certified by the International Gemological Institute (IGI), a globally recognized authority in diamond and precious stone certification.
Why aren't your diamonds clear or white?
Because these diamonds are grown from the carbon within your beloved, their natural chemistry (specifically nitrogen) can result in warmer tones, including champagne, amber, or rich rum hues. Consider it a last mark of their personality from them.
Many diamonds on the market have their colour altered using additives or post-growth treatments. We choose not to do this, as it introduces something foreign into the diamond and alters its natural outcome.
The result is an undeniably authentic and unique (as no two are the same) diamond.
Our Process
What happens after I begin the process?
So you've made your order. From there, we'll send you your very own Welcome Kit. This box contains everything you need to collect, store, and send us your beloved's hair, fur, or ashes.
Once we've received your Kit back, we'll confirm with you and begin the diamond growth process.
How long does the whole process take?
Typically 5-6 months from when we receive your Welcome Kit back. This also includes jewelry setting, handcrafted by our expert jewelers.
Will I be updated throughout the process?
Absolutely. We know how incredibly personal of a process this is. Every month (or at your request) we send in an update accompanied by a visual on where your beloved is at in the process.
How exactly do ashes or fur become a diamond?
Great question!
Carbon is the element that makes up all life (you, me, our pets). Diamonds are carbon formed by the earth into a crystal.
What we do is extract the carbon from your beloved's ashes/fur, then emulating the same chemical and physical processes that turn that carbon into a diamond.
As opposed to an urn or generic memorial jewelry, this is less about preservation, and more about transformation. A piece of your love into the ultimate symbol of love.
How do you ensure my diamond comes from my pet's ashes?
Can we prove your diamond came from your pet's ashes with absolute certainty? No. Neither can anyone else, no matter what they claim.
There's no DNA in pure carbon. And carbon atoms in your diamond can't be traced back to a specific source. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a false sense of certainty.
What we can tell you is this:
We treat every pet's remains with profound care and respect. Each sample is labeled the moment it arrives, tracked and verified throughout the entire process, and documented at every stage. We're not a high-volume factory — we don't process millions of orders where mix-ups become likely.
Could we dress this up in fancy language about "chain of custody protocols" and make it sound more sophisticated? Sure. But we won't insult your intelligence during one of the hardest moments of your life.
What we do offer is our integrity, our process, and our commitment to honesty. We believe that's worth more than empty promises we can't keep.
Customization
Can I change my mind around diamond size or jewelry setting once I've made my order?
Yes. Due to the nature of the diamond's colour, we always give customers the opportunity to change the colour of their jewelry to match before setting begins.
We also do our best to accommodate any changes you'd like to make to diamond size, shape, and jewelry setting style during the production process. However, depending on which stage we're at, this may not be possible. We encourage you to notify us as soon as possible.
Can I order the diamond alone (without jewelry)?
You absolutely can! Begin the process with a loose diamond here.
Can I order the diamond first, then think about setting later?
Of course! We know how overwhelming this can be. As the creation process takes 5-6 months, you're welcome to begin the process, then explore setting options at your own pace, knowing things are at least moving in the background.
Can I request slightly modified or completely custom jewelry setting?
Yes, you can. We know how important it can be to have the perfect piece. So we can absolutely accommodate modifications to our existing styles, or design something completely custom for you.
Simply get in touch with us here to begin the process.
How is the jewelry made? What materials do you use?
All our jewelry (like our diamonds) is made to order. Bespoke. Handcrafted by our expert jewelers.
We use 18K solid gold for all our jewelry settings.
If you are allergic or sensitive to gold, we can also use other metals (e.g. platinum). Get in touch with us and we'll see what we can do for you.
Practical Details
How much in ashes or hair/fur is required?
We only require 60g of ashes, or 4g of hair/fur.
Less hair/fur is required due to the higher concentration of carbon content in it compared to ashes.
How durable or practical is the setting?
Diamonds are the hardest natural material and are well suited for long-term wear.
Our settings are designed to securely hold the diamond while maintaining comfort and balance. As with any fine jewelry, thoughtful wear and care are recommended, and many clients choose to insure their finished piece, as well as get it tightened/polished regularly at their local jeweler's for additional peace of mind.
Why do you conduct orders in batches?
Making sure we minimize errors and delays is paramount for a business like ours. Growing our diamonds in "batches," meaning we begin the process for multiple customers at the same time (never mixed together, of course) allows us to streamline our process and ensure smooth delivery and production.
It's consistency and efficiency for us, and peace of mind for you.
Where is your lab located?
Dun, dun, duuun, you caught us!
Unlike our best competitors around who have their labs in their home countries (i.e. the U.S.), what you find is these companies have really high overhead, which they're not paying for (you are). The reason we can afford to keep things accessible is because we have a lab offshore. It has all the same best facilities and technology. It's simply in a location where the real estate allows us to have our lab there without having to pay thousands of dollars extra just for the country it's in. And we pass on all the savings to you.
How is shipping handled, and what happens if something is lost in transit?
We ship all diamonds, finished pieces, and your Welcome Kit (both ways) using fully insured, trackable, and reputable shipping carriers.
We choose only the safest couriers, paying premiums to ensure maximum protection during transit. However, in the unlikely event of a diamond loss while shipping under our arrangement, we will take responsibility and either fully reimburse you or regrow your diamond at no additional cost.
